Located between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, on the South Bank of the River Thames, the Thai-Malay cuisine draws in both locals and visitors alike.
Champor Champor is a Malay expression which may loosely be translated as ‘mix and match’ - and this concept runs through the funky decor, the cuisine, the global wine list and the music. This is not a restaurant for purists but the mix of Thai and Malay cuisine at moderate prices makes it a great Asian restaurant in London.
What type of food do you serve? It is Thai-Malay cuisine.
Do you have a bar area where we can have a drink first? We have a very small bar area, but it is only really suitable for two or three people to have a drink. You are welcome to have a drink at the table before starting dinner, or there are a couple of pubs very close to us. The closest pub is The Horseshoe in Melior Street.
How long has the restaurant been open?We opened in late 2000, but the ownership and amanagement changed in September 2011.
Can you arrange taxis to take us home afterwards?Yes, we have a reliable mini-cab company which offers a reasonable value car service to destinations in London and the surrounding counties. It is not normally necessary to pre-order these, as they usually come within a few minutes of us calling.
Is it easy to park near the restaurant? After 6.30pm the parking controls finish, and you can park anywhere, except on a double yellow line. Parking is not normally a particular problem in the evenings. Alternatively, there is a multi-storey car park in Snowsfields, just two minutes walk away.
Do we need to book, or can we just turn up?We are a fairly small restaurant, and a popular evening venue, so we would always suggest that you book.
What time do you close? Our last orders are usually at10.00pm on weekdays and 10.30pm on Friday/Saturday. We normally shut the restaurant between midnight and 12.30am
Do you accept credit cards?Yes, we accept all the major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Switch, Solo, American Express) but we do not accept Diner’s Club cards. Also, we do not normally accept cheques: Cash or cards only.
Are you fully licensed? Can we bring our own wine?Yes, we are fully licensed. We do not encourage BYO wine; we sometimes allow it if you pay a corkage charge. This is usually £15 per bottle of wine or £30 per bottle of Champagne.
Can we bring our own birthday cake?We have no objection as long as you have had either the three-course or tasting menu.
Is your restaurant suitable for anniversaries or birthdays?Yes, we have a special ambience, which is very suitable for celebrations.
Do you cater for private parties? If so, what is the maximum number you can accommodate? Can we book the whole restaurant? The largest group size we can accommodate in the evening is 25 people, but at lunchtime it is possible to book the entire restaurant, in which case we can manage a group of up to 45 people.
Do you do take-aways / deliveries to local offices?Yes we offer a take away service but for lunchtimes only.
Do you have an a la carte menu?Yes, we serve a la carte menus for both lunch and dinner.
How often do you change the menu?We have exceptional a la carte menus throughout the year and we will often feature additional special menus from month to month. We also have a three-week festive menu for the run-up to Christmas, and we do a special lovers’ menu for Valentine’s.
Can you cater to vegans / coeliacs / other special dietary conditions?Yes, as long as we know in advance, Chef can normally arrange this.
Do you have vegetarian choices on your menu?Yes, we always have two vegetarian starters and two to three vegetarian main course options on our standard menu.
Is your food halal? / Do you serve halal food?We do prepare pork and pork products in our kitchen, so not all of the meat is halal. The fish and vegetarian dishes can be considered halal, and if you specifically require it we can pre-order halal chicken for you (minimum 24 hours notice).
