We are an innovative, award-winning fish restaurant, with our own in-house specialist fishmongers, based in Milford-on-Sea, a vibrant village located in the south of The New Forest, just three miles west along the coast from Lymington, Hampshire.
At Verveine we believe food and eating out is about enjoyment. Our aim is to create superb food that is thoughtful, creative and most importantly tastes sublime, cooked and served by our knowledgeable and friendly team in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.
Chef/Patron David Wykes takes inspiration for his dishes from nostalgic experiences of a childhood growing up in the seaside town of Hastings, the best freshest ingredients from the land and sea and the limitless natural beauty of the local environment - the Solent's coastline and The New Forest.
This infinite source of creativity is combined with the knowledge and experience of working in both France and England. David's initial apprenticeship was served at the 5 Star Grand Hotel in both Jersey and Brighton. David then moved to Oxford where he worked at the Michelin Star and 3 AA Rosette kitchen in the Bath Place Hotel. From Oxford David moved to France where he worked his way up through the ranks of many Michelin Star French kitchens, including: restaurant L'Univers, Les Viviers, Auberge D'Azur, Restaurant Jules Albert, and the world famous Restaurant Chantecler at the Hotel Negresco in Nice.
David opened Verveine in 2010. Verveine was awarded Best Restaurant in Hampshire 2011, Best Service and Best Local Menu 2012. In 2011 & 2012 he was recognised as 'Hampshire Chef of the Year'.
Fishmongers & Deli Provisions
The fishmongers at Verveine has been a family run business for over 50 years, offering a large selection of fresh, high quality fish to customers, and supplying the restaurant kitchen. The fish are sustainably sourced from day boats which work out of Brixham, Devon and the shellfish are harvested from the Solent.
The excellent relationship we have with our suppliers ensures we are able to provide our diners and customers with the freshest fish of the highest quality. We pride ourselves that our head fishmonger Adrian Blake, with 25 years of fish mongering skills, can source anything you require and prepare it to your personal specification. Our main emphasis is on seasonality, sustainability and healthy eating.
Our deli offers amazing, artisan restaurant breads, baked in house every day, ready-meals also made in house, seasonal vegetables, olives, pasta, risotto rice and other top quality deli provisions. David is always happy to offer advice and ideas on how to help you turn the wonderful fish and produce you select into delightful meals at home.
